Hiking for Fitness
Offering several hiking options in our local foothills all of which will meet near the flagpole in front of the office at the Conejo Valley Adult School for the first class. Thereafter, the class will meet at designated trailheads. Wear sturdy trail-rated hiking shoes and comfortable clothing in several light layers. Water, sunscreen and a light weight backpack or fanny pack are highly recommended. A hat, snack and camera/ phone are also a good idea.

Beginning (no previous experience necessary but capable of hiking 2.5-3 miles)

Instructor: Barrie Silberberg is familiar with many trails in the Conejo Valley and will share interesting details at various hiking locations.

Hatha Yoga

Hatha Yoga is a mixed level class that teaches the classic yoga postures (asanas) with a deep awareness of correct alignment, and breathing exercises (pranayama). The practice works to increase flexibility and strength, improve breathing and quiet the mind, striving for total fitness and mindfulness. Suitable for all practitioners. Introduction to
Fly Fishing

Go from classroom instruction to hands on experience in three weeks! The first session will include instruction on gear, knots, fly selection and fishing location. The second session covers rigging your gear, casting techniques and learning to cast a fly. The final session will find you casting at Lake Casitas and nymph and dry fly fishing at a local stream. Additional $10 parking fee charged on last day.

Instructors: Randy Weir and Earl Arnold have more than 50 years of fly fishing experience and enjoy teaching others. Both instructors are members of Sespe Flyfishers, and Randy has been guiding on the streams of Ventura County since 1994. (www.tightlinesguide.com).

Yin Yoga
Yin Yoga is a slow-paced practice where mostly passive postures are held for longer periods of time, typically from 3-5 minutes. The aim is to increase circulation in the joints, reduce osteoporosis, improve flexibility and help restore mobility. Introduction to Meditation
There are many kinds of meditation and many benefits to meditation such as lowering blood pressure, reducing stress, feeling more emotional balance, increasing creative thinking and awakening our inner spirituality. Meditation is an individual journey that is unique to each person. This class will offer several different kinds of meditation and provide suggestions and tools for creating one’s own meditation practice.

Alexander Technique
Not an exercise in the traditional sense, the Alexander Technique applies body alignment principles to reduce stress, fatigue and muscle tension and to counteract chronic pain due to poor posture, neck and shoulder tension and lower back injuries. This introductory class will benefit daily life by increasing the ability to move with ease and freedom. Wear comfortable clothing.

Would you like to learn about some of the edible and medicinal wild plants growing all around us? This class is a combination of connecting with nature, safely identifying wild plants, and how to transform them into food and medicine. We’ll discuss how to ethically collect and the basics on how to transform wild plants and herbs into a usable salves, folk tinctures, infusions and edible, culinary delights!  This outdoor experience includes 3 short easy walks, followed by demonstrations and hands on projects working with wild plants.

Come and join this peaceful, guided walk through nature, while performing meditative exercises that will relieve stress and calm the mind. Interpretive Nature Hike

The Santa Monica Mountains and the Conejo Valley are exciting ecological and historical areas to explore. On this intermediate level hike, you’ll learn about flora and fauna, the geology of our area, fire ecology, and the Chumash.

Meditation
Mindfulness is a particular way of paying attention in the present moment with openness and curiosity. Researched benefits of meditation include reduced stress, depression, anxiety, increased ability to manage and regulate emotions, increased ability to manage pain, and improved sleep. This class will offer conscious movement, mindful meditation, and conversation to reflect on how we can be more peaceful and joyful.

This is a low impact challenging workout to upbeat music. Bring weights, a mat, and a Swiss 55cm ball (also known as a Resista- Ball), and build core strength along with muscle tone in your arms, back, butt and legs.
