Digital Photography
Intro
This workshop will give you the essential skills needed to get started with digital photography. Students will learn about camera controls, shooting modes, file formats, resolution, memory cards, electronic flash, white balance and downloading images to your computer. Additionally, course covers composition, simple enhancement, preparation for email or website, printers, and selecting digital image-editing software. Bring your digital camera and the instruction manual.

Instructor: Tom Ferguson is both a commercial and fine art photographer. He has appeared in over 100 exhibitions nationwide.

Leatherworking

This class will get you started creating beautiful and useful items in leather. You will learn about the different types weights and grades of leather, leather craft tools, fasteners and closures, carving designs and hand sewing, pattern making, coloring and finishing. You will make a custom leather cellphone case or knife sheath by the end of the class.

Instructor: Howard Horwitz is an avid metalworker, woodworker and leatherworker. He specializes in a variety of leather holsters, sheathes, guitar straps, saddle bags, and is excited about passing on this quickly fading art.

Cool and Clever Crocheting

Learn how to crochet or refresh your skills. In 6-weeks read and follow patterns with confidence. Complete simple projects in the beginning class and advance your skills in the intermediate class. Students need 1-skein of worsted weight/4-ply yarn and a hook (size G, H, or I) on the first day of class, or bring your work-in-progress for further development.

Beginning Woodworking
This beginning hands-on class will introduce students to the proper use of basic hand and power tools in a woodshop. An in-class safety test will be required before students begin to work on in-class projects including a practice pine cutting board and a quality hardwood cutting board. Femme Fatales
In this class you will be introduced to Film Noir, meaning Black Film, which was an influential type of film that had its heyday in Hollywood from 1940-1958.  Three classic films will be shown and the basic elements of Film Noir will be discussed: the visual style, the type of story, the characters and the mood.

Instructor: Joseph Longo has a Master’s degree in Mass Communications, has taught college-level film and literature courses, and has written about film.  He also worked as a film researcher for the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Make friends with your camera and its lenses to take better pictures! Let’s face it, digital SLR cameras can be intimidating. There are so many buttons and dials, and that manual is a novella! Learn the basics about shutter speed, aperture and ISO and how they work magic in your camera. Easy techniques to photograph flowers, landscape and outdoor portraits will be presented. Bring your DSLR camera (one with interchangeable lenses), manual, and any lenses you may have.

One Pencil
Join this introductory, individually focused and interactive course on learning to draw with a single pencil. Students will use creativity and imagination to put onto practice the basic principles of drawing; topics include shading and rendering texture, proportions and perspective.
